A check for the John T. Keck Scholarship in the amount of $5,000.00 was presented to UOG student Jahnice Joyce T. Miranda on Thursday, July 19, at the University of Guam, on behalf of the family of the late John T. Keck, the University of Guam Endowment Foundation and the UOG Financial Aid Office. The John T. Keck Scholarship is intended to acknowledge a student of high academic achievement who demonstrates the qualities of a focused business individual. It is in memory of the late Dr. Keck’s dedication and commitment to his students in the School of Business and Public Administration that a scholarship award was created in his honor.

The late Dr. John Thomas Keck was a professor of Finance in the School of Business and Public Administration at the University of Guam, where he was honored with the faculty award for excellence in teaching. Before living in Guam for seventeen years and contributing much to the campus, local and business community, he lived in Italy, other parts of Europe and South Africa. His zest for life can be seen in his attaining a ship’s captain license and spending many hours in the outdoors and sailing with his friends and family. His service to the community is evident in his scholarly publications and through the many students he advised and mentored.
Born in Jacksonville, Florida, on October 1, 1946, Dr. Keck was an outstanding scholar and gifted teacher. He received his bachelor’s degree in Finance and master’s degree in Business Administration from Florida State University in Tallahassee, and he received his PhD in Finance and Accounting from Georgia State University.
